To provide the protection to the rescued children found to be selling drugs, the chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR),
Usha Negi has written to the chief probation officer (CPO) of women welfare directorate, asking about the list of vacant places for the rescued children in all the registered government and non-government organisations. Recently, Negi caught a child aged about eight years, selling cannabis near Bindal bridge in Dehradun. The girl was sent to Balika Niketan after the counselling.
According to Negi, hundreds of such children are involved in such drug selling rackets and it is important to provide them protection after they are rescued with the coordination of the police department, health department, Childline, district child welfare committee and some NGOs. Negi added that it is important to provide them education and a standard life while destroying such drug rackets.
Therefore, Negi directed the CPO to submit the details of available places for the children that might get rescued in the future within one week.
