Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that law and order in Uttar Pradesh was in a shambles due to the nexus of criminals, ruling party leaders and officials.
Chairing a virtual meeting with UP party leaders to discuss the law and order in UP and corner the Yogi Adityanath government on Saturday, Priyanka said that the deteriorating law and order would be a major plank in the forthcoming panchayat polls in the state.
Prominent leaders who attended the virtual meeting included UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, Congress Legislative Party leader Aradhana Mishra `Mona’, Rajiv Shukla, Jitin Prasada, Brijlal Khabari, Pradeep Jain and Imran Masood.
Priyanka’s diatribe against the state government came in the aftermath of eight police officers and personnel being ambushed by wanted history sheeter Vikas Dubey in a Kanpur village early Friday morning.
Mentioning the Kanpur incident, the top Congress leader said that patronage from those in power had boosted the morale of criminals and hence they were indulging in such audacious acts. She said that it would not be an exaggeration to state that jungle raj prevailed in UP.
Priyanka said that Congress would launch a campaign against the jungle raj in UP and organise press conferences against rising crimes in every district.
“The party will also run an online campaign in the state and party workers and leaders would be seen on Facebook Live. People will be urged to raise their voice against the increasing crimes in the state,” she said.
Priyanka urged the people to post their messages against rising crimes on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
“If you have any problem, you can write about it and give it to Congress workers of the district and party leaders. The Congress party will collate all letters and complaints and submit them to the UP Governor and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for necessary action,” she said..
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised questions about the safety of people in Uttar Pradesh when the police were being attacked.
“Another proof of hooliganism in UP. When the police are not safe, how will the common public be?” Rahul said, quoting a news report on Friday.
