Ajay Dalal selected for Oly Trials 

New Delhi: Commonwealth champion Ajay Dalal is selected for Taekwondo selection trials for Tokyo Olympics with 4.32 points in the 87+ kg category. The Sports Authority of India is going to conduct three-day selection trials at the SAI Lucknow regional center from April 15 to April 17 for the Taekwondo players. 

Dangal Games introduce FantasyDangal 

New Delhi: India's booming skill-based online gaming platform — Dangal Games on Wednesday announced the launch of its third initiative prior to the beginning of IPL 14 and it forays into the league of fantasy gaming as FantasyDangal. The application will go live on April 9 and provide a fantasy forum for the users and audiences around different sports genres.

archers first to get fully vaccinated

Pune: Olympic-bound Indian archers on Wednesday took their second shots of Covid-19 vaccine, becoming the first fully vaccinated lot of athletes from the country ahead of the Tokyo Games. In an initiative by the Army Sports Institute, all the eight senior archers, the coaches and support staff were administered the second shot at the Military Hospital.

Sable to train in Uganda from April 10

New Delhi: Olympic-bound steeplechaser Avinash Sable is set to train in Uganda from April 10 to July 20 after getting a go ahead from the Sports Ministry, which approved a proposal sent by the AFI. He will be training under foreign coach Addy Ruiter.

Mary, Lovlina in Asian C’ship squad 

New Delhi: Olympic-bound six-time world champion MC Mary Kom (51kg) will spearhead the Indian women's challenge in the Asian Boxing Championship slated to be held New Delhi from May 21 to 31. Mary Kom is a six-time Asian medallist, including five Golds. Another prominent name in the team is two-time world Bronze-winner Lovlina Borgohain (69kg). Simranjit Kaur (60kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) are the other Tokyo-qualified boxers in the squad.

Sailor Nethra qualifies for Olympics    

New Delhi: Nethra Kumanan on Wednesday became the first Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics after she was assured of a top-place finish in the laser radial event of the Asian Qualifiers in Oman. The 23-year-old Kumanan (18 points) has a 21-point advantage over her nearest rival, who also happens to be an Indian — Ramya Saravanan (39) in the Laser Radial Class event with one race to go. In sailing, the athlete who has the least points wins the competition.

Sania mirza included in TOPS   

New Delhi: Sania Mirza was on Wednesday included in the Government's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), four years after she opted out of the programme. “Yes, Sania has been selected in the recent TOPS list,” a SAI source said.
