A total of 42 staffers and workers of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) and a driver were injured on Sunday when a bus carrying them fell into a rivulet in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The bus belonging to SECL, a flagship subsidiary of Coal India Ltd (CIL), was proceeding to the Mahan coal mines from its Bhatgaon headquarters.
When the bus reached a bridge near Sukhdevpur village, the driver apparently lost control over the steering and the bus rolled into the rivulet after smashing through the cement railing, Surajpur Superintendent of Police Bhavna Gupta said.
All the occupants of the bus were shifted to a hospital in Bhatgaon from where 32 were referred to a private hospital in Ambikapur. The others were discharged after providing first aid, the officer said.
