CBI claims actionable clues on Dhanbad judge murder case

Saturday, 04 December 2021 | VIJAY DEO JHA | Ranchi

The CBI has sought permission from the special CBI court of Dhanbad to once again conduct narco analysis, brain mapping, and polygraph tests on the two accused of the murder case of Dhanbad Additional Sessions Judge Uttam Anand.

The agency has said that it has some actionable clues about the mastermind behind the death of the judge hence it wants accused Lakhan Kumar Verma and Rahul Kumar Verma to undergo a fresh test.

They had allegedly knocked down the judge with an autorickshaw on the morning of July 28 near Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad when he was on a morning walk. Dhanbad police booked them under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), and 34 (common intention). Later on, the CBI took over the case and it filed a charge sheet in a Dhanbad court on October 20.

Notably, the CBI  had conducted some of the tests on the accused and said that the accused were deceptive. Now the CBI wants them to undergo tests once again to bring the truth. It wants to conduct tests between December 6 and December 29.

“During the investigation, actionable clues and leads have been gathered which hints a possible involvement of other co-accused or mastermind behind the murder of late judge Uttam Anand. During the police custody, both accused did not reveal anything worthwhile,” the CBI said.

But the lawyer Kumar Bimlendu, appointed by the District Legal Services Authority for the accused, opposed it and said that in the past also these tests were conducted but no result came. But the court dismissed his contention.

The CBI told the court that during initial investigations, the accused were subjected to narco analysis, brain-mapping, forensic statement analysis, layered voice analysis, polygraph, forensic psychological assessment, and other tests.

The CBI said that the accused Rahul Kumar Verma was a veteran thief and his associate Lakhan Verma always looked for a chance to execute the plan. Hence they did not reveal any motive for the crime.  The CBI further said that they hit the judge deliberately and intentionally causing severe injuries to the judge causing his death.
