Delhi Congress will hold demonstrations in all the wards of Municipal Corporation where by-elections are scheduled this year, to demand rollback of sky-rocketing prices of gas and petrol in the national capital.
Former MLA Alka Lamba and president of the Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress Amrita Dhawan said “The Modi Government has so far collected ` 20 lakh crore on excise duty on petrol and diesel. He did not spare people from the tax burden even during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. The Congress will hold dharnas and demonstrations to protest against the cooking gas and oil price hikes in all the five MCD wards, which are going for by-elections later this month,” they said.
The Congress leaders also demanded that the AAP Government to immediately reduce VAT (Value Added Tax) on petrol and diesel to provide Delhiites some relief.
Meanwhile, Congress Delhi unit president Anil Chaudhary and vice-president Jaikishan in a statement said that both the AAP and the BJP governments have completely taken away all the rights of government employees especially Dalits and small workers and they are being exploited fiercely and government machinery is also being misused.
“MCD employees have not been given salary for the last two months and they are forced to go on strike for the upbringing of their family, due to which the development work in Delhi has come to a complete standstill,” they said.
