MILD CASES CAN BE MANAGED AT HOME: PGIMER DIRECTOR

At a time when hospitals are inundated with Covid patients due to a massive surge in cases in Chandigarh and neighbouring States including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand, which has also led shortage of ICU beds, oxygen supply in city’s hospitals, PGIMER Director Dr Jagat Ram on Wednesday said that Mild Covid-19 cases can be managed at home.

He said, “Being in the thick of Covid 19, there is so much panic and we see everyone rushing to hospital when tested positive whereas the mild cases can be managed at home and overcrowding in hospitals can be avoided.”  Dr Jagat Ram said that the people living in home isolation keep contacting their doctor. Saturation is decreasing to 93 or less, there are conditions like fainting, chest pain, then contact the doctor immediately, the patients who are clinically assigned to be mild /asymptomatic are recommended for home isolation. Falling oxygen saturation, excessive fatigue are warning signs that indicate Covid patients in home isolation need hospitalisation. The medical institute has run out of ICU beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients. “We are admitting only severely critical patients,” he added.
