Eight deaths in a week send alarm bells ringing

Saturday, 15 May 2021 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Eight deaths barely five kilometers away from Daltonganj at Sua Koriya in little over a week has caused enough alarm and worry in the district administration.

BJP MLA Alok Chourasia broke this news to the DC Shashi Ranjan on May 13 night.

Taking immediate note of this DC Shashi Ranjan directed the civil surgeon Palamu Anil Kumar Srivastav to rush medical team in Sua Koriya to ascertain the verity of death, number of death,  its duration and cause of the death.

Ranjan said the matter is serious and has to be found out by all means.

He said he was told of 'many deaths' taking place in the Chhaterpur subdivision as well where DC said the Chhaterpur SDO has put on job the PDS dealers and others like mukhiyas to keep a close count on death and its real cause.

Former MLA of Daltonganj KN Tripathi said that four deaths here at Sua Koriya are stated to have been due to fever while one death was of a long running paralytic stroke and three other  deaths are under the cloud of uncertainty.

Tripathi said deaths are occurring and there is a great and urgent need to tackle the situation without getting into any panic.

Civil surgeon AK Srivastav said he has directed the medical officer in charge Dr  Seema to personally investigate the alleged spate of deaths and its causes besides taking down covid testing facility here at Sua Koriya.

Ranjan said that on May 13 everyone was unsettled to know about 932 people going covid positive in one day only.

However he said we breathed in calm when we learnt that these 932 cases of positive results in one day were in fact of the pending test reports of days together.

On Thursday 1,400 tests were conducted out of which 66 had tested positive. He said our civil surgeon has also spurred his officials to go all out for the testing.

Good gathering of people in the age group of 18 - 44 was witnessed today at the vaccination sites for the jabs, said the civil surgeon.

The people in line followed the protocol of social distancing which was a good sign of more and more awareness coming among the public, said the civil surgeon.

Sources said the functioning of the community health centre Panki leaves much to be desired as here laxity in duty, absenteeism are the most visible things which none here bothers for.
