Anshu Nag has been serving as a nurse for seven years in Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. Her inspiration? Her mother who also was a nurse until retirement.
Seeing how diligently her mother served everyone and earned everyone's respect, Anshu became a nurse. She learnt Gondi dialect too so that she could treat the local tribals properly and communicate with them. When Anshu’s mother Sheela was in government service, most deliveries were done by her in Narayanpur town. Sheela commanded so much awe that both the rich and poor flocked to her for delivery.
Now her daughter Anshu gives Covid-19 vaccination to people in Kutul, Kohkameta and nearby villages with equal dedication, an official press release said on Thursday.
IED bombs have exploded thrice in front of Anshu and some of the security personnel accompanying her died but she has continued to serve the tribal people without fear.
On occasions, she has to cross a river and drains with water above the waist level to reach her poor patients, the release said. At times she treks through mud-soaked paths, it said.
When Anshu was infected with the coronavirus, she recovered under the supervision of her retired mother in home isolation. Now Anshu is back at work -- the face of the faceless nursing community of Chhattisgarh.
Anshu said backwardness leads to lack of awareness among the villagers.
She believes that one has to do as much good work as possible in life - and she is doing just that.
