Man beaten to death in Khunti, 3 arrested

A 46-year-old man, identified as one Pankaj Choudhary, was badly beaten on Saturday night in Khunti and died at RIMS in Ranchi during treatment.

The deceased suffered grievous injuries after he was assaulted at Tapkara locality under Tapkara police station area, barely 50 meters away from Tapkara police station. The incident took place around 8 PM.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three accused Istiyak Miyan alias Tajo, Nazir Ansari and Suhail Alam.  According to information arrested accused assaulted him in a minor dispute after he was taken to a referral hospital at Torpa. But owing to his serious condition he was referred to RIMS. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.  All of them were said to be in an inebriated condition. A local resident claimed that the entire incident was captured in the CCTV camera. Apparently, he died due to internal injuries as he was vomiting blood.  

Tension also erupted in Tapkara locality as a large number of people gathered outside of the police station as they were agitated over the killing. But no untoward incident was reported as the Khunti police patiently handled the issue. Police immediately arrested the accused and also deployed force.

Deceased was a carpenter by profession and he was the sole bread earner of his family.  Belonging to poor economic background he was survived with three children and wife. Two of his sons are divyang whereas the daughter reads in class nine. One of them is blind. 

Residents also demanded compensation for the family besides widow pension for his wife, a house and disability pension for his children. The district administration gave Rs 20000 to the family to perform last rites. The district administration assured all possible help to the family. The local MLA Koche Munda also visited the family and demanded Khunti police for a speedy investigation and to ensure that accused are punished.
