MoU inked for waste management, execution; CM greets authorities

In the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, an MoU was signed for waste management and execution at the residence. The MoU was executed between Bhopal Municipal Corporation and NTPC, Bhopal RNG Private Limited for setting up of 200 tonnes per day wet waste to bio-CNG plant and 400 tonnes per day dry waste torrefied charcoal plant.

Chouhan congratulated the concerned after exchanging the signed MoU. A video film related to the Swachh Bharat Mission prior to the MoU was also shown.

At present, about 800 tonnes of garbage is collected from Bhopal city every day. Municipal Corporation Bhopal spends Rs. 333 per metric tonne for its disposal. With the establishment of this plant, Bhopal RNG Private Limited will give an amount of Rs 83 lakh to Bhopal Municipal Corporation as royalty every year for 20 years and bio-CNG will be provided at the rate of Rs 5 less than the market rate. The Bio-CNG generated from the plant will be used in city buses. Rs 40 crore is estimated to be spent on setting up the plant, which will be fully borne by the agency itself. No processing fee will be charged by the agency from Bhopal Municipal Corporation for waste disposal. According to this, after the establishment of the plant, the Municipal Corporation Bhopal will have a saving of Rs. 2 crore 43 lakh 9 thousand every year on solid waste disposal.

The construction of torrefied charcoal plant with 400 tonnes per day dry waste will be based on built on operate model. Establishment and operation-maintenance work of the plant is to be done by NTPC itself for 25 years. It is estimated that Rs.80 crore will be spent on its establishment in Adampur Chhavani in an area of ??15 acres, which will be fully borne by NTPC. The torrefied charcoal produced will be used in power plants of NTPC. There will be a saving of Rs. 4 crore 86 lakh 18 thousand every year on solid waste disposal to Municipal Corporation Bhopal from the plant.
