Priyanka winds up UP visit

Congress general secretary and party in-charge of Uttar Pradesh affairs, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, completed her marathon zonal meetings with party leaders here on Saturday, the third day of her visit on her Mission 2022.

Priyanka Vadra said the state party organisation would have the last say in the selection of candidates for the 2022 assembly polls.

“Party organisation will play an important role in ticket distribution in upcoming elections. The organisation's work in the last phase requires day and night hard work," she said and added, “A strong organisation is necessary not only for the party but also for nation-building. During the election workers should work round-the-clock.”

The Congress general secretary met the office-bearers of the eight zones of the state in the past two days. Priyanka Vadra took the reports one by one from the district, city, state secretary, general secretary and state vice-presidents. The two-day brainstorming covered 831 blocks, 2,614 wards and 8,134 nyaya panchayats of the state. At the last, meetings of Purvanchal and Awadh zones were held on Saturday.

Discussion was held with the organisation of 97 blocks and 975 nyaya panchayats of Purvanchal. Priyanka took reports of 133 blocks and 1,330 nyaya panchayats of Awadh. The Rohilkhand zone meeting was held with reports of 823 nyaya panchayats of 85 blocks. Review of 96 blocks and 874 nyaya panchayats of western UP were also held.

The ongoing farmers’ agitation was also discussed during the meeting, sources said. Besides, brainstorming on the election strategy for western UP was also held.

On Friday, Priyanka Vadra completed interaction with the leaders of four zones till late night. She started her interactions with the remaining leaders of four zones from Saturday morning.

Priyanka Vadra is expected to go to Rae Bareli on Sunday morning. Congress leaders here said that in-depth discussion on elections, organisation building and party campaigns were held with zonal leaders. They said Priyanka Vadra took reports and feedback from every leader.

Discussions were also held on the trends at the ground zero, leaders said.

Meanwhile, the announcement of party candidates for state assembly polls was delayed after an initial discussion on Friday with Priyanka.  Now the next meeting of the election committee will be held on October 5 to discuss the candidates.
