Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's warning to fix responsibility of the officials who fail to check sale of spurious liquor in their area besides invoking Gangsters Act against the culprits seems to have failed to get the desired results as one more tragedy hit Pratapgarh district on Tuesday night when four people, including two brothers, died after consuming spurious liquor.
The incident took place in Katariya village of Udaypur area, police sources said on Wednesday.
Last week, four persons had died after consuming spurious liquor in Pratapgarh district while spurious liquor had claimed eight lives in Chitrakoot last week after which several officials were placed under suspension.
Taking cognisance of the fresh case, Superintendent of police of Pratapgarh, Akash Tomar, on Wednesday, suspended the local station house officer and ordered a high level probe to take further legal action against the accused.
As per reports, Pradeep (35), his brother Dilip (50), their maternal uncle Siddhanath (70), all residents of Katariya village in Udaypur, and one Ram Kumar Prajapati (35), originally hailing from Bihar, consumed alcohol on the occasion of Holi on Tuesday night. However, their condition started deteriorating an hour after consuming the liquor and they were rushed to nearby hospital where both the brothers and their uncle were pronounced dead while Ram Kumar was referred to district hospital in Amethi in a critical condition. He too died on Wednesday morning.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for autopsy.
A case was registered in this connection and the cops were trying to confirm from where the victims purchased the liquor. They were also waiting for the post-mortem report.
Further investigation is underway and no one has been arrested in this connection so far.
