UP announces cash rewards for Olympic medalists

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced hefty cash rewards for the Olympic medalists from the state under which gold medal winner would get Rs 10 crore, silver medal winner Rs 4 crore and bronze medalist Rs 2 crore.

Besides, all the athletes from UP participating in the Tokyo Olympics will be given Rs 10 lakh each by the state government.

For the athletes playing team sports, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to give Rs 3 crore to the winner of a gold medal and Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore to the players winning silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the Olympic Games.

“Under the mission ‘Khoob Khelo Khoob Badho’, the Uttar Pradesh government is making all the necessary arrangements for the better training of players,” a government spokesman said and added that special coaches have also been appointed to impart quality training.

He said along with increasing the convenience of the players in the hostels, the construction of new stadiums had also been done expeditiously.

It is noteworthy that as soon as the Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh government assumed office, as many as 44 hostels were established for 890 players, who were into different sports in more than 19 districts. The amount for the sports kit was also increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500.

The chief minister also showered his best wishes to the athletes of the state who are participating in the Olympic Games.

Among the sportspersons who participated in the Olympic Games from UP are:

Athletics: Priyanka Goswami, Annu Rani, Seema Punia from Meerut, and Shivpal Singh from Chandauli.

Shooting: Saurabh Chaudhary of Meerut and Meraj Ahmed Khan from Bulandshahr.

Boxing: Satish Kumar from Bulandshahr.

Rowing: Arvind Singh from Bulandshahr.

Hockey: Vandana Kataria from Meerut and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay from Varanasi.
