Uttar Pradesh has now become the first state in the country to conduct more than 4 crore Covid tests. In the last 24 hours, around 1.84 lakh tests were done in the state, out of which more than 94,000 were through RT-PCR.
The government has placed an order for 40 new RTPCR machines to intensify testing after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath insisted that maximum testing should be done through RTPCR in the state. Last year itself, when the first wave of Covid-19 hit the state, surveillance teams were formed to conduct door-to-door surveys and investigations in every area.
By Monday, the Health department team reached out to more than 16.19 crore people in the state. During the survey, people who were found to be infected were tested and their treatment started. Alsso, the Health department supervised around 3.35 crore houses of about 2.35 lakh areas so far.
To reduce the effects of COVID-19 infection, the UP government has intensified the vaccination drive across the state. So far, a total of 1.19 crore vaccine doses have been administered which included the first dose of 98.83 lakh vaccines and 20.63 lakh second doses. The vaccine will be now administered to those above 18 years of age in the state from May 1. To ensure availability of adequate doses in the state, the government has ordered to procure 50 lakhs doses of Covishield and Covaxine each, from manufacturing companies. Uttar Pradesh is the first state to announce vaccines free of cost to all people.
