In view of sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in the city, the Chandigarh Administration is considering imposition of night curfew, closure of markets, sealing of borders among other restrictions in the city.

The issue was discussed during the review meeting of Covid-19 situation held under Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.

Expressing concern over sudden surge in infections, the UT Administrator said that the option of night curfew, closure of markets, sealing of borders and restrictions of numbers in different events will be considered, in case the number of Coronavirus patients continue to rise in the city.

The Administrator directed that mobile teams for testing should be sent to crowded places like Apni Mandis, Bus Stand, Railway Station, Sukhna Lake, Rose Festival venue and other places, where people gather in large numbers.

Badnore appealed to the residents to strictly observe Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands.

He also requested the hosts and organizers of events like marriages, conferences etc. to provide for masks and sanitizers on the site, so that the participants and the guests can use it while attending the events.

On the issue of re-opening of OPDs in the hospitals, the Administrator said that although he had directed normal OPDs functioning in all medical institutions, yet keeping in view the increase in number of infections, the Directors concerned must take their in house decision regarding the number of patients and other precautions to be taken in the premises.
