Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting approval for the first phase of the Gorakhpur Metro Light Rail Project.
On Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “Approval has been received for Phase-1 of 'Gorakhpur Metro Light Rail Project' in the meeting of Public Investment Board (PIB). I express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for this.”
Under the Light Rail Transit Project (LRT) in Gorakhpur, a detailed project report (DPR) of three-coach light metro has been prepared and the state cabinet has also given its approval to it. Construction work will start as soon as the permission of the Centre is received and the target is to complete the construction work by 2024. The state government has also made a provision of Rs 100 crore for Metro rail projects in Gorakhpur, Varanasi and other cities of the state in the budget.
As per the DPR of Gorakhpur Metro rail, there will be two corridors and a total of 27 stations, all elevated ones, will be built on both corridors. Approximately Rs, 4,672 crore is estimated to be spent in the construction of the Gorakhpur Metro rail project.
The first corridor will be 15.14 kilometre long from Shyam Nagar to Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology and will have 14 stations. It is estimated that around 1.55 lakh people will travel in it daily by the year 2024. This number is expected to increase to 2.05 lakh in by 2031, while in the next ten years i.e. by 2041, 2.73 lakh people will be able to travel daily.
