Celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) with the help of National Service Scheme (NSS) from August 1, Vice Chancellor, Onkarnath Singh, on Saturday, said that agricultural university of the State, which is involved in the academic, research and extension activities of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, horticulture, agricultural engineering, dairy technology, fisheries and biotechnology subjects, has completed 42 years.
Singh said that at present, a total of 11 colleges are functioning. During the last 5 years, 7 new colleges related to Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology and Fisheries Sciences were established under the University.
“The university has been trying to promote the agricultural development of the State, battling with immense problems since its formation. Due to non-appointment of regular teachers, scientists and staff for nearly two decades, the condition of the university has been greatly affected by limited resources and Corona. Despite the difficult situation of the University, in the last two years,the University has achieved many laurels. With the financial and positive cooperation of the Government of Jharkhand and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the University is marching towards continuous improvement in the areas of education, research and extension,” said Singh.
The VC further said that Soka University, Japan and BAU signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation and exchange in academic and research programs in the year 2021. “On the occasion, BAU presented an Professorship to Dr Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of Soka University, Japan for the first time. Considering the huge potential in Tasar sector in the State, MoU was signed between CTR and TI, Ranchi and BAU for recognition of CRP and cooperation in grading and training programs. Assessed the capacity of driven Community Resource Personnel (CRP),” he added.
“To promote cooperation in conducting academic and research exchanges in the field of forest productivity between the Institute of Forest Productivity (IFP), Lalgutwa, Ranchi and BAU under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun. Memorandum of Understanding signed. The university has been ranked 60th, 58th respectively in the last two years. The university in the year 2021-22 The university has got many important achievements, due to which the university is hopeful of qualitative improvement by 10-15 places in the ranking this year,” said Singh.
The VC said that in the year 2020, a total of 454 students were enrolled and 91 students passed out in the UG course. In the year 2021, a total of 456 students were enrolled and 274 students passed out. “In these three new agricultural colleges, a total of 138 students from Garhwa, Godda and Deoghar got the first. Apart from this, 20 students passed out from Fisheries College and 17 from Dairy Technology for the first time. Similarly, 38 students were successful in UGC recognized Diploma and Bivok for the first time. In the PG and PhD courses of the year 2020, despite Covid-19, a total of 110 students enrolled and a total of 52 students were awarded degrees. The enrollment process for the year 2021 is going on and a total of 63 students have been awarded PG and PhD degrees,” he added.
Singh said thay Veterinary Graduate (2020), Dr Nikita Singh got enrollment in PG course of Royal College of Veterinary Sciences, United Kingdom.
