The Chhattisgarh government has financially empowered urban local bodies across the state.
By notifying the amendment in the Municipal Act of 1998, the Municipal Commissioners of Municipal Corporations with more than 10 lakh people will now have financial power of Rs 1.5 crore.
The corporation will have a financial power of Rs 6-10 crore.
Similarly, the Municipal Commissioners of municipalities having a population 3-10 lakhs will have a financial power of Rs 1 crore while the municipality will have a power of Rs 10 crore.
Following this, the Urban Administration and Development Department has provided ward wise amount to all the municipal corporations.
The department has asked the commissioners of all municipal corporations to send proposals for infrastructure development works, giving information about the approval of the amount.
The Urban Administration and Development Department has sanctioned Rs 10.50 crore for wards in Raipur Municipal Corporation at the rate of Rs 15 lakh per ward.
For Bhilai and Bilaspur Municipal Corporations, a total of Rs 7 crore each has been approved at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per ward.
An amount of Rs 8 lakh has been sanctioned for Korba, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Ambikapur, Birgaon, Dhamtari, Bhilai-Charoda, Risali and Chirmiri Municipal Corporations.
