The High Court has given instructions to the Transport Commissioner on the issue of installing panic buttons and GPS in passenger vehicles. It has been said that four month’s time should be given to install panic buttons and GPS in passenger vehicles. Significantly, the Transport Department of the State Government had issued a circular on November 1. In this, it was said that four months' time can be given to the bus owners to install panic buttons and GPS.
For this, Principal Secretary Faiz Ahmed Kidwai had also inspected the control command room being prepared at Bhopal RTO to monitor the vehicles plying in the state. The circular was issued after it was found that the work on the control command room was not completed.
Salma Khan had filed a petition in the High Court for non-implementation. A hearing was held on this, in which the High Court has directed Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Jha to give four months' time to the vehicle owners. It should not be made mandatory to install GPS and panic button for four months while issuing fitness certificate.
