Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ on Tuesday directed the officials concerned to construct public toilets under flyovers in the city that fall under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He also directed the officials to ensure regular cleaning of drains constructed along with the national highways. The mayor stated this in a meeting held by him on Tuesday with the officials of NHAI, the Public Works Department (PWD) and municipal officials in his office in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). He also said that NHAI should pay all its dues to the electricity department before transferring the management work of street lights and electricity poles to PWD.
He also instructed the officials concerned to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the corporation for the construction of a vending zone under the Mohkampur flyover that falls under NHAI. The mayor directed the officials to expedite the construction work of public toilets under flyovers on the route of national highways in the city to ensure basic sanitation facilities can be provided to commuters. He said that Swacch Survekshan 2023 has also started and such initiatives can make a significant difference in getting the city into the top 50 cleanest cities in the country.
