Brahmapur MLA Bikrama Kumar Panda on Saturday urged State Labour and ESI Minister Srikanta Sahu to set up a Labour Court in Brahmapur city for the larger interest of thousands of workers who take much pain travelling to Jeypore in Koraput to get justice.
In a letter to the Minister, he mentioned that as Brahmpur is one the
major business hubs of south Odisha and surrounded by important
industrial centres like Aska Sugar factory, Jayshree Chemicals, OSRTC
regional office, Gopalpur port, Gopalpur SEZ and other industrial
houses, labour class and trade unions have been demanding to set up a
Labour Court here for a quite long time.
The Jeypore Labour Court established in the year 1986 is reportedly
burdened with thousands of cases and the labourers from district like
Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal are finding it difficult to attend the
court in Jeypore.
Panda urged the Minister to consider the proposal under the provisions
of Industrial Disputes Act 1947 and establish a court here.
