GEN JJ SINGH JOINS BJP

The first Sikh to be appointed as the Army chief, General Joginder Jaswant Singh on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Tuesday. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma, inducted the former army chief and welcomed General Singh into the party fold. The former army chief had joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2017, ahead of state assembly polls, and left the party in 2018. General JJ Singh had unsuccessfully contested against the then Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh from Patiala urban segment during the 2017 Assembly elections. General JJ Singh, who had also served as the governor of Arunachal Pradesh, was the first Sikh to be appointed as the Army chief in 2005.

ECI TRANSFERS TWO DCs, EIGHT SSPs

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday transferred two Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers (DEOs) and eight Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in Punjab. Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju said that the ECI has appointed Girish Dayalan as DC-cum-DEO Ferozepur, while Vineet Kumar will be the new DC-cum-DEO Bathinda. Similarly, the ECI has appointed Harjeet Singh as SAS Nagar (Mohali) SSP, Dhruman H Nimbale as Hoshiarpur SSP, Patil Ketan Baliram as Ludhiana Rural SSP, Deepak Hilori as Amritsar Rural SSP, Gulneet Singh Khurana as Tarn Taran SSP, Amneet Kondal as Bathinda SSP, Sandeep Kumar Malik as Sri Muktsar Sahib SSP, and Sartaj Singh Chahal as Fatehgarh Sahib SSP, said the CEO.

CONG, BJP LEADERS, SOCIAL ACTIVISTS JOIN AAP

Senior Congress leader Amit Singh Manta from Sujanpur assembly constituency, eminent social activist Amandeep Singh Sandhu with his associates, and from Jan Sangh Vijay Garg and Vikas Garg, who are members of eminent social activists Garg family, joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday in the presence of party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. AAP’s senior leader and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said that Amit Singh Manta had contested from Sujanpur constituency on Congress party ticket in 2017 and received more than 31,000 votes. Manta is Punjab Congress’ former general secretary and is the president of Youth Rajput Sabha Punjab.

SAD REACHes OUT VIRTUALLY TO PEOPLE

In a first-of-its-find initiative, SAD has started an initiative to take its campaign to the people through social media initiative in which the party president Sukhbir Singh Badal will interact with the people of each and every constituency in the State virtually along with the party candidate. The initiative was kick-started a day before with Sukhbir Badal interacting with the people of Kharar along with party candidate Ranjit Singh Gill simultaneously at three different places in the constituency. The interaction witnessed people indulging in a freewheeling discussion with Sukhbir Badal on a number of issues including lack of healthcare and drinking water shortage in Majri block as well as discrimination meted out to Naya Gaon the Kansal areas by the present Congress regime.

OUR MISSION TO MAKE MOHALI A HUB OF PUNJABI CULTURE ALSO: BALBIR SIDHU

Former Cabinet Minister and Mohali sitting Congress MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu during his election campaign on Tuesday said that their mission was also to make Mohali a hub of Punjabi culture and to promote the young talent who wish to make a big in art and culture. “When we talk about development, we mean development across every field. We have focused on the all-round development of Mohali. Rather to focus on some select areas, all spheres were brought under development's radar. Like education, health and other civic matters, we paid full attention to promote the Punjabi culture and talent in Mohali,” he maintained.

Punjab and Haryana HC’s SENIOR ADVOCATES JOIN AAP

AAP’s senior leader and the Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema Tuesday said that more and more people, who are progressive and enlightened, are joining the party every day. Punjab and Haryana High Court’s senior advocate HPS Rahi and High Court bar Association’s executive member Dalpreet Singh Bath joined AAP, said Cheema. Welcoming the senior advocates to the party, Cheema said that educated people of the society, who want to bring change in the politics of Punjab, are joining AAP. Rahi said that the legal community has been impressed by the work being done by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the common people, “and today, I’m joining AAP family”. Bath said that the people of Punjab have decided to form the AAP Government this time to get rid of traditional parties and their anti-people politics.
