Trade union strike affects services partially

Tuesday, 29 March 2022 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The first day of the Bharat Bandh called by central trade unions on Monday affected government banks, Life Insurance Corporation and coal mining in Chhattisgarh. The trade unions are protesting against the anti-labour policies of the Central government.

The trade unions of South Eastern Coalfields said the strike affected the mining operations. The unions claimed 90 percent shutdown but the SECL administration claimed that the operation affected only 78 percent in the mines.

Chhattisgarh being an industrial area, the banking clearances were affected as the staff of nationalized banks participated in the strike. But the new-generation banks were operational.

As the government banks are mostly involved in treasury and clearance works, this work was hit.

Shirish Nalgundwar, General secretary of the Chhattisgarh Bank Employees Association, said the employees staged a protest near the Motibagh Chowk. On Tuesday, the protest will be staged at LIC Pandri office.

The central trade unions are protesting against the government policies affecting workers, farmers and people. Their demands include scrapping of the labour codes, no privatization in any form and scrapping of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).

The strike will continue on March 29.
