As many 12 fishermen, who had gone missing after their trawler ‘Upasana-I’ sank in the Bay of Bengal, were rescued by the India Coast Guard (ICG) on Friday. However, one fisherman was still missing.
All the rescued fishermen are residents of the Talchua area under Pattamundai block in Kendrapad district.
As per the preliminary report, the trawler sank in deep sea due to a technical glitch in the engine.
The fishermen had gone into the deep sea for fishing on Thursday morning. However, they became incommunicable after 5 pm.
Later, their concerned family members reported the matter to the Talchua Marine police station.
The police Coast Guard launched a joint search operation immediately and traced the half-sunk trawler and the fishermen floating in deep sea. They were rescued and rushed to a hospital.
“Based on our information, Coast Guard personnel launched the rescue operation and rescued 12 fishermen successfully,” said Talchua Marine PS IIC Srikant Barik.
