A day after Vijay Nair was arrested by the CBI, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that anyone from the AAP could be jailed on false charges as the BJP is making all-out efforts to crush the party fearing defeat in the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly polls.
“They arrested Vijay Nair. Who is Vijay Nair? AAP ka chhota sa karyakarta hai. He handles communication for us. Earlier, he did great work in Punjab and we formed the Government there. Now, he is handling the communication strategy in Gujarat.
“He was handling social media outreach in Gujarat. They are saying he was involved in a liquor scam in Delhi. I don’t understand how he is linked to liquor or a liquor scam. He looks at social media in Gujarat. He is just a party worker,” Kejriwal said in a digital address.
He claimed that Nair was arrested after he refused to buckle under the agency’s pressure to give a false statement against Manish Sisodia to implicate him in the Excise Policy scam. Slamming the BJP-led Centre over Nair's arrest, Kejriwal charged, "They are extremely rattled and have gone crazy as the (popularity) graph of the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat is rising each day at a very fast pace.
The people of Gujarat are coming out in the streets and openly criticising them (the BJP)." First, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was arrested, then AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, and now Nair on "completely false" charges, Kejriwal said. "Next week, they are going to arrest Sisodia. If they can arrest a small party worker like Nair, they can arrest anybody," he said.
Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Centre of "hatching a conspiracy 24X7" to frame AAP leaders in false cases, fearing their defeat in the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly polls.
AAP leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi who held a press conference separately said that after several months of investigation, the CBI is yet to find anything against Sisodia and now they are trying their best to pressure Nair to take the name of Sisodia somehow so that they can arrest him.
“Now, we are concerned that Vijay Nair would be tortured and harassed by the CBI so he gives in to the pressure and takes the name of Sisodia.
This investigation is their reaction against the growing popularity of AAP in Gujarat and to crush Kejriwal. This investigation is completely unconstitutional and illegal,” said Bhardwaj.
Atishi said that Nair has been arrested at this time only because over the last couple of months, he had been handling the communication strategy of the AAP for the elections in Gujarat. “The AAP expresses their solidarity with such a dedicated worker who despite all the pressures of the CBI refused to indulge in their insincere plan and try and falsely implicate Sisodia in the case,” said Atishi.
