MHA transfers 59 IAS, IPS officers post ordinance

Friday, 09 June 2023 | PNS | New Delhi

In a major reshuffle following the notification of the Centre’s ordinance on Delhi administrative services, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday effected transfer of 59 Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) or Central cadre officers, including 32 IAS and 27 IPS officials.

The reshuffle entails the transfer of six IAS and seven IPS officers, while 11 IAS and 16 IPS officers have been assigned new postings in Delhi. This reallocation affects the cadre spanning across five States and four Union Territories.

Among the officers involved, IAS officers Vivek Pandey, Garimal Gupta, Sanjay Goel, and Pawan Kumar Sain have been relocated to Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Goa, and Delhi, respectively. Similarly, Ajay Bisht, Anil Kumar Singh, Pankaj Jha, and Ajay Chagti are being reassigned to Delhi from Arunachal Pradesh.

Other officers, including Rahul Singh, Ankita Mishra, Nandini Maharaj, and Kale Amit, currently stationed in Delhi, are being sent to States such as Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Chandigarh.

While the MHA has labeled these transfers as routine and some pending, they are viewed in the context of the Centre’s ordinance, which aims to prevent the Delhi Government from imposing transfers on the Delhi UT bureaucracy.

In addition, B Srinivasan, a senior IPS officer known for his efforts in strengthening the intelligence wing of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, has been appointed as the Director General of Puducherry Police. Another IPS officer, Anil Shukla, has been assigned the role of police chief in Mizoram.

Srinivasan, a 1990 batch IPS officer who previously served as the intelligence chief during the abrogation of Jammu & Kashmir’s special status, becomes the second officer to be transferred out of the Union Territory following the merger of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre with the AGMUT cadre.

Previously, Lalatendu Mohanty was transferred to the Delhi Police. Srinivasan replaces Manoj Kumar Lal, who has been called to Delhi for further assignment.

Meanwhile, Shukla, a 1996 batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has assumed the position of Director General of Mizoram Police. He previously held the post of Inspector General of Police in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

During his tenure at the National Investigation Agency, Shukla led investigations into several terror-related crimes in Jammu & Kashmir and played a crucial role in a major crackdown on separatists. He takes over from Devesh Chandra Srivastava, who has been reassigned as the Director General of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
