Best MLA award, cultural extravaganza to mark Assembly Day

The preparations for the Jharkhand Assembly Foundation Day celebrations on November 22 and 23 are in full swing, promising a series of engaging events. On November 22, a ceremony to honour outstanding MLAs will take place, followed by a musical performance by Bollywood singer Javed Ali on November 23.

The day will also coincide with the Jharkhand Assembly honouring the best legislator award.  This year, Ramchandra Singh, MLA from Manika assembly constituency of Latehar district, has been selected as the outstanding MLA. On November 22, he will be honored with the Birsa Munda Outstanding MLA Award. He will be honored by the Chief Minister with Rs 51,000, a citation and a memento. Ramchandra Singh is a Congress MLA. He has been elected MLA from Manika Assembly for the third time.

MLA Ramchandra Singh won the election for the first time in the year 1995 on Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket. After this, he became MLA for the second time in 2005. This time also he was elected MLA from Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket. He became MLA for the third time in the year 2019. This time he contested the elections on Congress ticket and was elected MLA.

Prior to Singh, the MLA who have been conferred with best MLA award includes Visheshwar Khan in 2001, Hemlal Murmu in 2002, Rajendra Prasad Singh, Loknath Mahato, Annapurna Devi, Radha Krishna Kishore. PN Singh, Inder Singh Namdhari, Janardan Paswan in 2010, Madhav Lal Singh, Raghuvar Das in 2012, Lobin Hembrum, Pradeep Yadav, Stephen Marandi, Vimla Pradhan, Maneka Sardar, Nalin Soren in 2020, Ramchandra Chandravanshi and Vinod Singh in 2022. Six employees will also be honored along with the outstanding MLA.

The foundation day function will be attended by Governor CP Radhakrishnan, Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with ministers, party members, and opposition MLAs.

In addition to recognizing the efforts of Assembly personnel, the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Naxalite incidents will be honored. The celebration will also include special recognition for 10th and 12th board toppers, as well as three scientists from Jharkhand associated with the Chandrayaan Mission.

A cultural program is scheduled at the Assembly premises on November 23, starting at 6:00 pm. The program will kick off with folk singing and music by local artists, followed by the captivating melodies of playback singer Javed Ali. Ghazal singer Kumar Satyam will enchant the audience with soulful ghazals, and comedian Ravindra Johny is set to add a touch of humor to the cultural festivities.

 In preparation for the upcoming foundation day celebrations of the Jharkhand Assembly on November 22 and 23, Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato conducted a high-level meeting with departmental officials. During the meeting, the Speaker outlined plans to honor the families of soldiers martyred in a Naxalite encounter on November 22 and individuals associated with sports. He directed officials to facilitate the attendance of these individuals at the program through designated nodal officers.
