A day after the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament from Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav, took to X to raise questions regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s policies and intentions, suggesting a lack of trustworthiness.
Dimple Yadav remarked, “BJP’s existence depends on backward and extremely backward castes. They do not want backward caste women to reach Parliament. They do not want women to become the voice of the country in the assembly.”
Questioned ruling party’s stance the Dimple said that the BJP had been in power for a decade, largely relying on the support of Other Backward Classes (OBC) voters. She questioned the apparent contradiction of denying political rights to OBC women, asking if the BJP was reluctant to grant them the same opportunities.
The Women’s Reservation Bill has been a long-debated and highly anticipated piece of legislation aimed at providing 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. Advocates argue that this move will help address the gender imbalance in India's political landscape, ensuring that women have a stronger and more prominent role in decision-making processes.
