MCC honours its workers on Labour Day
Chandigarh: To spread awareness about labour rights, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh celebrated International Labour Day with a large number of workers participating in various programmes across the city, including cultural performances, programmes and meetings etc. In a programme held at Community Centre sector 27, City Mayor, Anup Gupta accompanied said that the MCC has been implementing various development programmes for the welfare of labourers including their regular medical health checkup besides their insurance cover of 40 lacs each case. Similar programme was organized at Open Air Theater, sector 48. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, extended her gratitude towards the hard work of workers and acknowledged the essential role that these workers play in maintaining the city's roads, parks, street lights, market areas, public places and infrastructure. She thanked for their efforts in keeping the city's transportation network running smoothly.

British Dy High Commissioner unveils Renee Singh’s book ‘Beyond the Stars’

Chandigarh: Reene Singh, columnist, author and management guru unveiled her fourth poetic book – ‘Beyond the Stars’ in the presence of book lovers from tricity during a function unveiled by Caroline Rowett, British Deputy High Commissioner at Chandigarh along with poet and author Nirupama Dutt.  Being a stress management consultant, Renee believes the whole world revolves around love and there she derived her inspiration for a 130-page book. These poems had come to the author's emotions from her deep connection with nature and alignment with her own inner self. Renee has three poetry books namely – ‘Sacred Longings’, ‘Sacred Karma’ and ‘Sacred Desire’ to her credit. She is currently pursuing her new book about Science and Spirituality which is her passion.

Haryana Cabinet meeting on May 9

Chandigarh: Haryana Cabinet meeting will be held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at 4:00 PM in the main Committee Room, 4th floor, Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh on May 9, an official statement said on Monday.

Himachal government constitutes task force to curb illegal mining

Shimla: Ramping up efforts to check illegal mining in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has set up a task force that will review actions taken by various departments in this regard. The state government is trying to increase revenue through scientific mining but at the same time it is also serious about curbing illegal mining, a statement issued here said on Monday. 'Flying Squads' have been deployed at different places to curb illegal mining in border areas and the mining staff is conducting raids in industrial belts such as Baddi, Brotiwala and Nalagarh during odd hours to check illegal mining in these, a spokesperson of the state government said. The department has also initiated the process to identify private land being used for the extraction of illegal minerals by the locals in the Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh Development Authority area.

Himachal CM pays obeisance at Buddhist Monastery

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday paid obeisance at Jonang Takten Phunstok Choeling Buddhist Monastery Sanjauli, Shimla and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people of the State.  MLAs Ravi Thakur, Chander Shekhar and Neeraj Nayar and OSD to the CM, Gopal Sharma were also present on the occasion.
