Jharkhand bags gold in group event of SGFI U19 Yogasana competition

Jharkhand team won a total of six gold medals in the 67th School Games U19 Yogasana Competition organized by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) in collaboration with School Games Federation of India (SGFI) from December 19, 2023 at Heritage School, Kolkata. In this national level competition, Jharkhand has created history by winning gold medals in both singles and group competitions.

In the singles competition, Sushmit Dasgupta of East Singhbhum district has won the gold medal by securing first position. Whereas in the group event, Agni Ojha of Chaibasa, Mohit Kumar of Ranchi, Sushmit Dasgupta of East Singhbhum, Adhiraj Kumar of Ranchi, Shivam Ranjan of Ranchi have collectively won gold. 392 students from all the states across the country participated in the 67th SGFI U19 Yogasana Competition.

For the first time, Jharkhand State has become the overall champion of the event by winning 6 gold medals in the single and group Yogasana competition of the School Games. Earlier, gold medal was won in singles competitions. But the state team was missing out on winning the gold medal in the group event. Before the competition to be held in Kolkata, the Yogasan team was given two days of special training under the guidance of trainers Mr. Sushit Banerjee and Mrs. Sheela Kumari as per the instructions of State Program Officer Mr. Dhirsen Soreng.

On this historic success of the Jharkhand team, State Education Project Director Kiran Kumari Pasi, State Program Officer Dhirsen Soreng, Manager Santosh Singh, Team Guide Kalavati Kumari, Instructor Sushit Banerjee, Sheela Kumari and other officials congratulated the team and wished it a bright future.

Meanwhile, the State Education Project Council has issued instructions to the districts regarding the departmental order issued in view of the cold wave.  26 December holds great significance in Sikh history as it commemorates the bravery of 'Chhote Sahibzade', the two youngest sons of the 10th Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh. Sahibzada Jorwar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the children of the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Shri Guru Gobind Singh, had made a great sacrifice in their short lives of 9 years and 6 years on 26 December 1705, while paying tribute to them, the Government of India has named this day as 'Veer Bal'. It has been decided to celebrate it as 'Day'.

In the context of Veer Bal Diwas, the State Education Project has issued a letter to all the districts. In view of the order issued on December 21, 2023 by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Jharkhand to keep all schools in the state closed from December 26, 2023 to December 31, 2023, in view of the increasing impact of cold wave, Schools have been instructed to organize online programs. Under this, Government of India's My Gov. Children can participate in online interactive quiz by visiting the portal and My Bharat portal. It has been said in the letter that on this day the school should organize interesting online poetry, essay, painting etc. competitions related to Sahibzada Jorwar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh.
