BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi today put Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the dock demanding CBI investigation in the death of Topchanchi officer in-charge Umesh Kachhap.

The death of OC Umesh Kachhap, a policeman from Nagri, Ranchi, who was found hanging in his chamber in Topchanchi, Dhanbad, rocked the political establishment in 2016. The incident occurred when Raghubar Das was the Chief Minister of State,

Deceased Umesh's family had demanded Rs 50 lakh, a petrol pump and job to kin, a CBI inquiry, status of martyr to the dead policeman, dismissal of policemen who allegedly harassed him and FIRs against them under SC, ST Atrocity Prevention Act, and full payment of Umesh's salary to the family till the rest of his service period.

The demand for CBI probe of Umersh Kachhap gained momentum after the daughter of deceased Vijeta Kachhap has filed a petition in the High Court to get the CBI to investigate the suicide case of Inspector Umesh Kachhap (48), the then in-charge of Dhanbad's Topchanchi police station. The petition was heard yesterday i.e. on 06 July. The High Court has sought an answer in the matter within 4 weeks. The High Court has questioned the state government as to why the CBI inquiry was not conducted in the matter.

Marandi said that tribal officer Umesh Kachhap had committed suicide at Topchanchi police station in Dhanbad. In a conversation with his wife before his death, Umesh Kachhap had told the senior officers how the senior officers are pressurizing an honest and straightforward officer like him to save the officers who were extorting money by filing a fake case against a driver.

In this tension, Umesh Kachhap gave his life. Then the CID and the forensic team had found the police officers guilty in the preliminary investigation. But when the government was formed claiming to protect tribal interests, the government closed the file on the death of the tribal officer.

He said that by advising to close the investigation, the government advocate tried to save an officer who had become a crime partner in this government in the CID investigation.

Marandi said to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, why don't you get the CBI probe into the death of the tribal inspector? Why are you not listening to the plea of CBI investigation of the daughter of the dead tribal inspector? Why and to save which culprit is this tribal girl, who has lost her father, being made to go through the courts?
