Thursday, 05 January 2023 | Staff Reporter | AMBIKAPUR

Farmers of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh are taking up strawberry cultivation -- and are finding it profitable.

Lal Bahadur Singh in village Bhagwanpur Khurd earns good income from it. He owns 1.98 hectares of land. Earlier, he survived through traditional farming.

On the advice of Horticulture Department, he decided to shift a portion of his farm towards strawberry.

The farmer started strawberry cultivation on 0.50 hectares of land with assistance under the National Horticulture Mission.

He has sold strawberries worth Rs 22,000 so far. About three months are still left for the fruit to harvest. He believes the production will further increase and by March he will sell                  strawberries worth more than Rs 1.50 lakh.
