VHP seeks abolition of Hindu Religious Trust Board Act

Tuesday, 17 October 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) unit has urged President Droupadi Murmu to abolish the Jharkhand Hindu Religious Trust Board Act. In this connection, on Monday, Vishwa Hindu Parishad State Vice President Chandrakant Raipat, Sunil Gupta, Dr. Birendra Sahu, Kailash Kesari and Mithilesh Mishra met the Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan and also submitted a memorandum to the President. Through this, apart from abolishing the Hindu Religious Trust Board, the delegation also appealed to free the temples of Hindu Gods and Goddesses from the control of the state government.

According to Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the state government's control over the religious institutions of Hindus is similar to the British rule before 1947. After independence, except Hinduism, all other religious institutions are completely free to establish and run their institutions without government interference.

According to Vishwa Hindu Parishad, there are concerns regarding many points of the Trust Board Act in Jharkhand. Articles 25, 26 (Constitution of India) do not differentiate between Hinduism and other religions. In such a situation, there is no justification for the state to consider Hindu religion separate from other religions. Except Hinduism, all other religions are free to establish and run their religious institutions.

People with integrity are being appointed as presidents and members for the management of various temples and trust committees by the political party in power. It would be wrong to think that a body sitting in the capital would have better knowledge and understanding of the temple matters than the individual trust committees of the temples. In the present system, people and officials belonging to other religions also become managers and administrators of one or the other temple. According to VHP, governments do not provide any financial assistance to religious bodies, especially in the case of Hindu religion.

The government forcibly intervenes in the matters of Hindu institutions. It also starts charging for such interference. The Trust Board in Jharkhand is just a tool to please the members of a particular political party which only creates anarchy in Hindu religious institutions. In such a situation, it is necessary to abolish colonial laws like the Trust Board. In this way Hindu religious institutions should be freed from control.
