A youth was killed in the indiscriminate firing that started suddenly between two sides clashing over transaction of money at Agra's Untgiri intersection.
The firing also created panic amongst the onlookers and the shop-keepers, leading to a stampede-situation as the people ran helter-skelter to take shelter. The shutters of the shops also fell and the entire market closed within a few minutes.
Later senior officers along with local police reached the spot and launched a hunt for the miscreants who opened fire in the crowded market.
According to reports, Annu, a resident of Kheragarh, had a transaction of money with Shivkumar of the same village. There was a wedding in the village on Sunday night in which Shivkumar also went to attend the function. When Annu came to know about this, he also went there with his people. When they came face to face, Annu asked Shiv Kumar to return his money or be ready to face the consequences. This led to a heated exchange of words between the two sides. Both sides left the party and came and again clashed at the Untagiri intersection.
The situation took an ugly turn when both the sides suddenly opened fire on each other which led to panic and people rushed to take shelter. During this, a bullet hit 25-year-old Ankit in his stomach and he fell on the spot. Seeing this, the attackers fled.
On getting information, the police officers along with a force reached the spot. Additional Commissioner of Police Mahesh Kumar said that the doctors pronounced the young man Ankit dead in the hospital.
A case has been registered in this regard and a hunt has been launched for both the parties.
Meanwhile, another case of murder of a 10-year-old child has come to light allegedly due to political enmity in a village under Islamnagar police station of Budaun district.
The police gave this information on Monday. An official said that Gurjit, son of Nem Singh of Rafatpur village under Islamnagar police station, had gone with his mother to water the crops in the field on Sunday. He said that the woman was irrigating the field and Gurjeet was playing nearby when suddenly he went missing.
According to the police, the child’s dead body was found lying in a nearby field at midnight and the relatives informed the police. Gurjeet had a mark on his neck.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Siddharth Verma went to the spot and investigated the incident. The relatives informed the police that the child was murdered over an old political dispute. They alleged that Nem Singh had contested the last gram pradhan election and lost by 14 votes, while Matru Adi of the same village had fielded another candidate and he too lost. Matru felt that if Nem had not contested, his candidate would have won the polls so over the same enmity, he now got Nem’s son killed.
On the complaint of the child's grandfather, an FIR was registered under relevant sections and a hunt was launched to arrest the accused.
