With the newly formed Hamro Party of Darjeeling deciding to shun BJP for allegedly failing to keep its promise and back the Congress, the tri-colour party, seems to have got winds in its sail high up there in the mountains. This also after former Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh chief Munish Tamang joining the Congress in Delhi.
A few days after Ajay Edward the founder of the Hamro Party that faired exceptionally well in the last year’s civic elections said that he would side with the Congress if it nominated a right candidate, Bidhan Bhavan (State Congress head quarters) named former BGP chief Tamang as its candidate for Darjeeling parliamentary seat.
Out of the seven Assembly seats in Darjeeling constituency three are on the hills which have a majority of Gorkha population that plays a determining role in the parliamentary elections.
The hill people had been backing BJP for the last three elections … but they have not been able to keep their words … their policies have not done good to the people of Darjeeling,” Ajoy Edward a businessman-turned-politician said adding “if the Congress chooses a right candidate then there is a good chance of its winning in Darjeeling.
