Nehru's aura bubble burst in 1962: Modi

Friday, 24 May 2024 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress and said China thrashed India when the bubble of Pandit Nehru's aura burst in 1962. He also claimed that the INDIA Bloc is talking about having five PMs over the next five years and said the fight over 'ghee' has broken out in the alliance, even before the cow has given milk.

Addressing an election rally in Bhiwani, Haryana, Modi said, "1962 mein, pandit Nehru ke aura ka gubbara jo phoot gya, China ke haathon jo hamari pitaayi huyi', they (Congress) held our military responsible for that defeat. That family even today keeps looking for opportunities to demean our military. And in a sense of revenge, they have thrown Rs 500 and said OROP (One Rank One Pension) will be done. Modi has said what it means to implement OROP..."

Modi also said  the INDIA Bloc is talking about having five PMs over the next five years and said the fight over 'ghee' has broken out in the alliance, even before the cow has given milk.

Hours before campaigning for the sixth round of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls came to an end, Modi asserted that till he is alive, no one can snatch the reservation for Dalits and tribals.  All ten Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will go to polls on May 25.  In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had secured all 10 seats. In this election, "you will not only choose the country's PM but also decide the country's future", the PM told the gathering. "On one hand is your tried and tested 'sevak' Modi. Who is on the other side, one does not know," he said, targeting the INDIA Bloc that has as its constituents Opposition parties, including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The INDIA Bloc is "extremely communal, casteist and nepotist", he said while alleging that when the Congress was in power, it did not allow construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Recalling his days working for the BJP in the State in the mid-1990s, Modi said, "Haryana has showered a lot of love on me, I have deep relations with you."

"It is my guarantee that we will not let Haryana's development stop," he said while canvassing for BJP's Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat candidate Dharambir Singh. Modi also said in the last 10 years, "we have worked hard to wash off the sins of the Congress".

The Prime Minister also targeted the INDIA Bloc, saying it has already started making grounds for whom to blame for their defeat.

Campaigning ended on Thursday in the State for Lok Sabha polls and Karnal Assembly bypoll, in which political prestige of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, his predecessor M L Khattar, two Union Ministers and two Congress stalwarts including Kumari Selja is at stake.

The high-pitched campaigning, which saw the presence of top leaders including Modi, BJP chief J P Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, chief ministers of BJP-ruled States, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BSP leader Mayawati, came to an end at 6 pm.

As many as 223 candidates, including 16 women, are left in the contest for 10 parliamentary seats in the State. Two Union Ministers -- Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar -- and Congress heavyweight Deepender Singh Hooda are among the contestants.  There are nine candidates in the fray for Karnal assembly bypoll necessitated after Khattar's resignation as MLA.

There are a total 2,00,76,768 registered voters in the state, which include 94,23,956 women and 467 transgender voters, officials said.

Meanwhile, Modi on Thursday launched a fierce attack on ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, saying that drug trade is flourishing in the state and the government is in debt.

Addressing his first election rally in the State for the seventh phase of Lok Sabha polls on June 1, Modi said Punjab has given leadership to the country in various sectors - from agriculture to industry.

He then attacked the AAP, saying industries are now leaving Punjab while drug trade is growing. "The entire Government is running on debt." The Government writ does not run here while sand and drug mafia, and shooter gangs' rule, Modi said.

"All Ministers are enjoying themselves and the 'kagzi CM' (Chief Minister just on paper) is always busy marking his presence in the 'Delhi darbar'," Modi said. "Can such people undertake development in Punjab," he asked.

He also attacked the AAP and the Congress for fighting the Lok Sabha polls together in Delhi and against each other in Punjab.

"In Punjab, they are fighting against each other in elections just to show people. Delhi's 'fiercely corrupt party' and the party which is guilty of anti-Sikh riots are doing a drama of fighting against each other (in Punjab)," he said.
