Tragedy struck a family in Patiala as a 10-year-old girl tragically lost her life due to suspected food poisoning after consuming cake during her birthday celebration. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, has prompted swift action from authorities, leading to the registration of a case against the owner of the cake shop.

As per reports from the police, the cake in question was ordered online on March 24 to mark the young girl’s special day. However, shortly after indulging in the celebratory treat, all family members, including the girl, began experiencing severe symptoms of food poisoning, such as vomiting. Despite receiving medical attention, the young girl’s health deteriorated rapidly, and she tragically passed away the following morning.

In the wake of this devastating loss, the girl’s mother filed a police complaint, detailing the events surrounding her daughter’s untimely demise. Acting on the complaint, authorities have registered a case against the owner of the cake shop under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 273 (sale of noxious drink or food) and Section 304-A (causing death by negligence). Additionally, viscera samples have been sent to a laboratory for further analysis to determine the exact cause of death.

Expressing concern over the incident, a health official revealed that the girl’s family sought assistance shortly after the tragic event unfolded. Urging them to file a formal complaint, the Health Department promptly dispatched food teams to the family’s residence to collect samples of the cake for investigation.

“The girl’s family visited me on Thursday. I told them to lodge a formal complaint with the police and with the Health Department…Food teams were instructed to visit the house and collect samples of the cake,” said the health official.

In response to the growing outcry, Civil Surgeon Raminder Kaur has initiated a thorough probe into the matter to uncover any lapses or irregularities that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
