11th convocation ceremony at SPA Bhopal

The 11th Convocation of the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Bhopal was organised in the SPA Campus on Friday. Prof Kishor Kumar Basa, Chairman of the National Monuments Authority (NMA), Government of India was the Chief Guest for the occasion.

Prof HD Charan, Chairperson, Board of Governors declared the Convocation open. Prof Kailasa Rao M, Director, SPA Bhopal welcomed all dignitaries on the dais and all attendees and presented the Director's Report highlighting the activities and achievements of the institute during the last year.

He apprised that our students across programmes brought laurels to the institute by participating in various national and international sports events, competitions, conferences and conventions hosted by renowned organisations. The Director also shared some of the milestones achieved by the institute during the last year including conducting international conferences, training programmes, national workshops, setting up centres of excellence and undertaking several prestigious research and consultancy projects. 

Chief Guest, Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa, who has also taught Archaeology at Utkal University for more than two decades, delivered the convocation address on "Architects during Anthropocene: Challenges for Architecture as a Profession in India" and congratulated all degree recipients.

On this occasion, 263 graduands (125 undergraduate, 129 postgraduate and 9 PhD) received degrees from the Chief Guest and the Chairperson, Senate (SPA Bhopal). The degree recipients were from the programmes of Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Planning, Master of Architecture (Conservation), Master of Architecture (Landscape), Master of Architecture (Urban Design), Master of Design, Master of Planning (Environmental Planning), Master of Planning (Transport Planning and Logistics Management), Master of Planning (Urban and Regional Planning). Two Medals of Excellence, nine Proficiency Gold Medals, one Certificate of Appreciation for Proficiency, ten Best Thesis Awards, and two Certificates of Appreciation for Thesis were awarded. Prof. Natraj Kranthi, Dean (Academics) coordinated the entire event. An exhibition of selected academic works across the programmes and co-curricular activities was installed by the students at the venue.
