5 youths from Bhopal caught in Delhi in extortion case

Delhi police have arrested 5 youths from the capital Bhopal, the accused called from Delhi and threatened to fabricate victim's son in a rape case and extorted Rs 70000 online from the boy's father by showing fear of arrest; 41 SIM cards, four phones and 18 bank passbooks have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

According to Delhi Police, Deepak Kumar, resident of Rohini Sector-4, had said in his complaint given on March 7 that he received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as a police officer and said that his son was in police custody in a rape case. He promised to release the son if he paid Rs 70,000 and threatened to send him to jail if the money was not paid.

When Deepak asked to talk to his son, the thugs made him talk to someone in a tearful voice. On this, the victim deposited Rs 70000 in the mentioned bank account. After this he called his son and came to know that he was roaming with his friends. On the complaint of the victim, a case was registered in the cyber police station.

Delhi Police started investigating the bank accounts and arrested Vishwajeet Giri from Bhopal on Thursday.

On his information, Sudhir Pal, Ravi, Kujilal and Maya Singh were also arrested. Interrogation of these people revealed that the arrested accused used to provide SIM cards and bank accounts to the gang members. At present, search is on for other members.
