Crushing Blow to Naxalism: 15 hardcore Maoists surrender in Chaibasa

Friday, 12 April 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a significant turn of events, 15 hardcore and most-wanted Naxals surrendered themselves to the authorities in Chaibasa Police line under the West Singhbhum district on Thursday. The surrender ceremony witnessed the presence of DIG (Kolhan range) Manoj Ratan Chouthe, DC (West Singhbhum) Barun Ranjan, SP (West Singhbhum) Ashutosh Shekhar, and CRPF officials.

The surrender marks a major breakthrough in the region's efforts to combat insurgency and establish lasting peace. These individuals, who were once deemed a threat to society, have chosen to lay down their arms and embrace the path of peace and rehabilitation.

Among the surrendered Naxals were individuals with a long history of involvement in militant activities. Their decision to surrender indicates a shift in mindset and a desire to reintegrate into mainstream society. This event showcases the effectiveness of rehabilitation policies and the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in fostering a conducive environment for peace and development.

The surrendered Naxals were involved in various criminal activities, including cases registered under sections like 147/148/149/307/353/504/506 IPC, 27 Arms Act, 10/13 UAP Act, and others. Their decision to surrender is expected to have a significant impact on the security landscape of the region.

One of the surrendered individuals, Chandra Mohan alias Chandra Angaria alias Rashan, had a lengthy criminal record, with cases registered against him dating back several years. Similarly, Vijay Boypai alias Aman Boypai, another surrendered Naxal, had multiple cases registered against him, including serious charges like 302 IPC, 27 Arms Act, and others.

In their statements, the surrendered Naxals expressed remorse for their past actions and pledged to contribute positively to society. They appealed to other Naxals still engaged in militant activities to follow their example and join the path of peace and reconciliation.

According to information, the Naxals were active in the forests of Kolhan and Saranda of Chaibasa.

"All 15 Naxalites had contacted the Chaibasa police with remorse that they wanted to leave the jungle and return to the mainstream. Trusting the police, all 15 people came out of the forest and laid down their weapons," said an official.

The joint efforts of Jharkhand Police, CRPF, Jharkhand Jaguar, and other central paramilitary forces have resulted in significant achievements in the fight against Naxalism. Since 2022, a total of 161 Naxalites have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, while 11 have surrendered voluntarily. Additionally, a substantial quantity of explosives, weapons, and other incriminating items have been seized during anti-Naxal operations.

The establishment of new security camps and the demolition of Naxalite camps and bunkers have further bolstered security in militancy-affected areas. The continuous anti-Naxal campaign has disrupted Naxalite activities and instilled confidence in the minds of the local population.

The surrender of key Naxalite leaders and members, including Misir Besra alias Sagar and Patiram Manjhi alias Anal Da, is a significant setback for CPI(M) organizations operating in the region. It is hoped that their surrender will pave the way for lasting peace and development in Jharkhand.
