GAJAPATI SARPANCH GETS 2-YR RI FOR GRAFT

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Brahmapur, on Friday sentenced Dimidi Rama Rao, former Sarapanch, Kidigaon GP under Kashinagar block in Gajapati district, to two years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a graft case. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default to undergo another three-month imprisonment. Earlier, the Vigilance had charge-sheeted Rao for misappropriation of government funds by falsely showing expenditure under different heads in connection with execution of two projects during 2009-10 under the MGNREG scheme.

PADDY MSP TO BE RS 3,100 IF BJP GOVT IN ODISHA 

Keonjhar: The Odisha BJP Krushak Morcha on Thursday held a Press meet, which was presided over by its president Maheswar Sahoo. Sahoo said that if the BJP comes to power in the State, then MSP for paddy will be Rs 3,100 per quintal and cold storage will be built in every block, apart from providing water supply to all land and implementing system of e-marketing in every block for remunerative price of farm produces. Krushak Samman Bhata to farmers above 60 years, health insurance of Rs 5,000 to every farmer etc will also be provided. 

 

JAGAT SELECTED OPCC ELECTION CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE MEMBER 

Nuapada: Fakir Mohan Jagat, former president of Nuapada Dom-Ganda Samaj and a prominent leader of the Dalit community, has been selected as a member of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee election campaign committee. Jagat is known for his active involvement in establishing schools and colleges in Tukula, Bhalumunda, Bangomunda in particular and development of education in Nuapada district in general. He served as the Director of Kalahandi Central Cooperative Bank for many years. He served as the honorary State Wildlife Warden of Forest and Environment Department for a long time.

 

JSP FOUNDATION OPENS LIBRARY FOR VISUALLY-IMPAIRED 
Bhubaneswar: The JSP Foundation, the social arm of Jindal Steel & Power, has opened ‘Jindal Gyan’, an advanced assistive devices library in Bhubaneswar, catering specifically to the needs of the visually-impaired. On April 11, Bishnupada Sethy, Principal Secretary, SSEPD Department, Government of Odisha, inaugurated the library in the presence of Prashant Hota, President and Group Head (CSR), JSP, and others.

 

BUSINESS ADMN DEPT OF B’PUR VARSITY HOLDS PLACEMENT DRIVE 

Brahmapur: The Berhampur University’s Department of Business Administration conducted a placement drive for the graduating batch (2022-24) of MBA for the post of Insurance Trainee at Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Corporation Limited (SUD Life) here on Thursday. The campus drive was executed by Dr Suman Kalyan Chaudhury (Placement Officer) and company representatives. Twenty shortlisted students participated in the drive out of which five students were selected for the post.

 

GREEN ODISHA CONCLAVE HELD 

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a Green Odisha Conclave 2024 to spur innovation and collaboration towards the attainment of sustainable development goals. Held on April 10 in Bhubaneswar, the conclave convened a diverse spectrum of stakeholders from government, industry, academia and civil society to delve into and champion green practices and technologies.

 

TVS ILP WAREHOUSE IN CUTTACK

Bhubaneswar: TVS ILP (a part of TVS Mobility Group) recently broke ground for a new state-of-art warehouse in Cuttack. The event marked a significant milestone in the company's expansion efforts in Eastern markets. The Cuttack logistics park is expected to generate over 110 direct jobs and between 500 to 1,000 indirect employment opportunities in the region.
