Inter-State meeting on polls: WhatsApp groups at police station to monitor activities effectively

In view of Lok Sabha polls, a crucial high-level meeting was convened by Commissioner Kolhan,  Hari Kumar Keshari, and DIG Kolhan,  Manoj Ratan, at the Collectorate Auditorium in Jamshedpur. The meeting aimed to strategize and ensure robust security measures, particularly along inter-state and inter-district borders, to maintain law and order during the electoral process.

Representatives including DCs, SSPs, SPs, and their counterparts from three districts of the border states West Bengal, three districts of Odisha, and six districts of Jharkhand, adjacent to the Kolhan division, were in attendance.

Key Points Discussed: Enhanced Security Measures: A comprehensive plan for strong security and strict monitoring on the inter-state and inter-district borders was outlined to curb illegal activities such as transportation of cash, liquor, drugs, or any other prohibited items.

Mutual Coordination: The meeting focused on fostering mutual coordination among administrative and police authorities of Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand to ensure effective law enforcement during the Lok Sabha elections.

Surveillance Strategy: Strategies for security and surveillance at inter-state and inter-district borders were discussed, emphasizing the prevention of transportation of anti-social elements and illegal materials. Continuous communication through WhatsApp groups and wireless channels was proposed to facilitate information exchange.

Action Plan Implementation: Detailed discussions were held on arrangements for surveillance and security, including special monitoring at checkpoints and sharing lists of habitual criminals and surveillance criminals. It was suggested to establish a border state control room for continuous contact and exchange of necessary information.

Commissioner Kolhan underscored the importance of strengthening mutual coordination and information systems to conduct the elections in a peaceful and fair manner. He emphasized the need for improved coordination and suggested the formation of WhatsApp groups at police station and sub-division levels to monitor activities effectively.

DIG Kolhan stressed the deployment of security forces at sensitive places and advocated for enhanced coordination at every level to ensure fair and peaceful elections. The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to sharing actions taken against anti-social elements under Section 107 and ensuring effective implementation.

Key officials including DC West Singhbhum, SSP East Singhbhum, and other representatives from relevant districts and sub-divisions were present, reaffirming their dedication to upholding law and order during the electoral process.
