The INTUC State unit staged a dharna at Banarpal Chhak of Angul district on Saturday against the negligence of both State and Central Governments towards the interests of people of the district.
The agitating INTUC leaders under the leadership of its State president Dr RC Khuntia demanded immediate completion of the renovation work of NH-55 and NH-53, appropriate measures to control the air and water pollution, filling up of vacancies of Public Sector companies by recruiting local land displaced persons, expansion of Nalco Smelter and Power Plant, health insurance, social security and payment of minimum wages to Pachika, Anganwadi, health workers and domestic workers, settlement of dues to the retrenched workers of Talcher Thermal plant, extension of ESI facilities to mines workers and security guards, payment of wages to the local employees of Jindal Thermal Power at par with other outside employees, immediate functioning of the Nalco Eye Hospital, besides proper utilisation of mineral and CAMPA funds.
The INTUC warned to organise economic blockade throughout Angul district for an indefinite period if the demands were not fulfilled soon.
Among others, INTUC general secretary Kishore Jena, vice president Madan Mohan Dhal, Nirmal Samal, ER Sashmita Behera, Digambar Garnayak, Pranati Mishra, Baibhab Jena, Biplab Jena, SN Sahoo, Paresh Jena, Adv Debasish Bose and Susil Behera were present. Around 2,000 people participated in the agitation.
