AAP convener and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is crossing all limits in the alleged assault case of Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal and questioned do you think my parents are guilty? “Prime Minister, today you have crossed all limits by targeting my parents to break me. Your fight is with me, stop harassing my parents. God is watching everything,” said Kejriwal, addressing a virtual press conference. In a related development, Maliwal’s ex-husband Dr Naveen Jaihind appealed to the Delhi Police to question AAP supremo, not his parents, as he termed him the ‘real mastermind’ of the incident. He also demanded that a narco test be done on Kejriwal to ascertain the truth in the matter while calling his residence a ‘gutter house’.

Addressing a virtual press conference, Kejriwal, who is also the AAP national convener, said he has a message for Prime Minister Modi. “I have a message and appeal for PM Modi. You arrested my MLAs but I did not break. You arrested my minister but you could not make me bow. You arrested me and I was harassed in jail. But today you crossed all limits. To break me you targeted my old and ailing parents. My mother is suffering from multiple ailments. The day I was arrested, she had returned from hospital. My father is 85 years old and has hearing issues. Do you think my parents are guilty? Why are my parents being harassed? God will not forgive you,” Kejriwal said.

However, the Delhi Police is unlikely to visit Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday, as he claimed, to question his parents according to the sources. On Wednesday, Kejriwal had said police were going to question his elderly and ill parents the next day. Bibhav Kumar has already been arrested by police in the case.

Sources said police may visit his residence for questioning in the coming days but are not going there on Thursday and may also question Kejriwal in the coming days. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) in Hindi, Kejriwal said, “I am waiting for the police with my parents and wife. Yesterday the police called and asked for time to interrogate my parents. But they have not yet given any information about whether they will come or not.” The AAP accused the BJP of committing atrocities on Kejriwal’s parents through police.

“Ever since Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail, BJP has freaked out. They are attacking and conspiring against Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. But today, after summoning the parents of Arvind Kejriwal for questioning by Delhi Police, they have crossed all the limits,” Atishi said.

Concurring, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, “The BJP has stooped so low now they are using Delhi Police to commit atrocities on Kejriwal’s ailing and elderly parents. His father is 84, cannot walk without support and even has hearing problems. His mother had returned from hospital two days before his arrest and he could not even meet her at that time. People will respond to this with their votes.”

The former Chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) alleged that Kumar “slapped” her “at least seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her while “kicking” her on the “chest, stomach, and pelvis area”, and threatened with dire consequences. While her party colleague Sanjay Singh on May 14 accepted that the misbehaviour with her took place, the party then took a U-turn claiming that she is doing so at the behest of BJP.
