PLFI Area commander arrested, two AK-47 rifles seized in West Singhbhum

In a significant breakthrough, the Chaibasa Police have arrested two ultras, including the area commander of PLFI, acting on intelligence provided by SP Ashutosh Shekhar. The arrests of Soma Hembram and Birsa Khandait were made near Chitir hill of Goilkera police station area. Recovered from them were two AK-47 rifles, nine magazines, 188 rounds of live ammunition, 50 thousand rupees in cash, and a mobile phone. Notably, Sona Hembram faces 11 cases across Chaibasa and Khunti districts, while Birsa Khandaite has three cases registered against him.

 

SP Ashutosh Shekhar disclosed that the operation was based on intelligence indicating the presence of Area Commander Soma Hembram alias Najom, who was extorting levies from locals and impeding development projects in Goilkera and Anandpur police station areas. The police swiftly acted on this information, resulting in the successful arrests. The SP addressed the media in a press conference held at his office, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and vigilance in maintaining security in the region.

 

 Superintendent of Police received crucial information regarding the presence of the banned Naxalite organization in the forest hill area of the Goilkera police station vicinity. It was reported that PLFI Area Commander Soma Hembram alias Najom Pe-Kajru Hembram, along with several squad members, was obstructing ongoing development projects and extorting contractors in the Ilkera/Anandpur police station areas.

 

In response, SP promptly formed a team comprising armed forces personnel to verify the intelligence and take necessary action. On the same day, the team conducted a successful operation in and around the Chitir hill area of the Goilkera police station region. During the operation, the area commander of the banned Naxalite organization PLFI, Soma Hembram alias Najom Pe-Kajru Hembram, and an accomplice named Birsa Khandait were apprehended with the assistance of the armed forces.

 

As a result, Goilkera police station case no. 15/24 dated 20.04.2024 was registered under various sections of the Arms Act and the CLA Act against the arrested individuals. The arrested accused are identified as follows:

 

Samma Hembrum alias Najom, aged about 24 years, son of Kajru Hembrum, hailing from Police Station- Bandgaon, District- P. Singhbhum Chaibasa.

 

Birsa Khandait, son of Gonde Khandait, from S.-Dindapai, Police Station-Goilkera, District- P.Singhbhum Chaibasa.

 

Items seized from the arrested accused include firearms, ammunition, cash, levy receipts, a motorcycle.

 

Samma Hembrum alias Najom has been involved in several criminal cases including arms offenses, rioting, and murder across various police stations, including Goilkera, Bandgaon, and Anandpur.

 

Birsa Khandait has a criminal record involving offenses such as assault, rioting, and theft, documented in police stations like Sonuva and Gudari.

 

This operation marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalite insurgency and ensure the safety and security of the region. The police and armed forces remain committed to maintaining law and order and upholding the rule of law in Chaibasa.
