Bajwa slams Mann for failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply

Chandigarh: The Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday rebuked the AAP-led Punjab Government for making hollow claims about being power-sufficient. Bajwa, citing a news report, said that consumers in the State should be prepared to face long unexpected power cuts in the summer season, particularly in the upcoming paddy transplant season. “As per the news report the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has sought permission from the power regulator Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) for imposing power cuts due to any power shortage in generation within the State. Meanwhile, the experts believe that this could mean cuts after the election process in Punjab gets over in June,” he added.

Bajwa said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's government in January this year bought a 540-megawatt private thermal power plant at Goindwal Sahib. “Mann boasted about purchasing it for Rs 1,080 crore to fulfil the power demand of the State. He owes an explanation to the people of Punjab why has he failed to ensure a smooth power supply in the State,” he said, lashing out at the AAP Government for “befooling the people with lofty claims, but failed miserably to deliver on the ground”.
