SAD replaces Maluka as halqa in-charge

Saturday, 13 April 2024 | PNS | Bathinda

A day after senior SAD leader Sikander Singh Maluka’s IAS daughter-in-law Parampal Kaur Sidhu joined the BJP along with her husband Gurpreet Singh Maluka, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal held a meeting with the party workers from Rampura and Maur assembly segments in Bathinda district and appointed senior party leader and former Cabinet Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon as the in-charge of the Maur assembly segment, replacing Maluka.

Since April 10, Maluka was seen actively campaigning alongside Harsimrat Kaur Badal in Maur. However, the political landscape took a turn when his son and daughter-in-law made headlines by joining the BJP on Thursday. Sidhu’s potential candidacy from Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP candidate added another layer of intrigue to the situation.

Notably, Maluka had been appointed as in-charge of this constituency the previous year. During the 2022 state elections, the party had fielded Jagmeet Singh Brar in this constituency, ignoring Maluka’s claims on ticket for his son.

Maluka, responding to his family members’ decision to join the BJP, expressed his reservations, stating that he had discouraged them from taking this step. However, he emphasized that their choice was personal. Regarding the appointment of the new halqa in-charge, Maluka deferred to Sukhbir’s authority as the party president, acknowledging that he has the prerogative to appoint individuals as he deems fit.
