Monday, 25 March 2024 | SUGYAN CHOUDHURY

Satyajit Senapati’s ‘THE LEADER’S KALEIDOSCOPE’ is the second of its kind after his maiden venture publication and yet bestseller in Amazon, ‘Work, Workmanship and Winning’. Wisdom comes out of experience and experience comes out of one’s exposure to the world through its multifarious layers. Satyajit has had the rare opportunity to address the national and international symposiums, business meets as a TEDx speaker besides having rendered his service as a leader in several enterprises of national and international repute for over two decades. This book is a sagacious compilation of what are the leadership materials the author stumbles upon during his long journey through the alluring corporate world.

Unlike others, Satyajit departs from the oft-treaded path of how to take on puzzling concept of leadership and persuasively prescribes a set of seven new perspectives to look at its lexicon in this newly-released book of his. This second endeavour of the author indeed aims at unravelling the secrets that lie behind the birth of a true leader. The seven perspectives, hitherto ignored, are Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Reimagining Workplace Dynamics, Sustainability, Customer-Centricity, Employee-Centricity, Work-Life Balance and Innovation; each of these is like an intoxicating capsule that instantly instils oceans of thoughts into the readers with a few drops of words. It can succinctly be summarised as an insightful manual for moulding leaders. It is a stimulating read for leaders as well as ones aspiring to be leaders; that will help them build ambitious plans and programmes for their grandiose enterprises.

The author throws upside down the traditional conceptual wisdom of leadership and re-imagines new ways relevant in an era of hyper-changing world. The insightful ideas contained in his book are undeniably very much pragmatic and practical, emphatic and pivotal, vibrant and veridical. He aptly attributes the qualities like empathy, decisiveness, communication, attitude, team building, vision, emotional quotient, storytelling, problem-solving abilities and capabilities of inspiring his team that should adorn a leader. He inarguably claims that the leader goes on ascending the hierarchical ladder through exhibition of his potential qualities and in delivering goods while aiming at reaching his or her destination.

The spectrum emanating from the kaleidoscope depicted in this book is enticing. The author’s observation is not propheti, but real when he says, “Innovate or perish” as innumerable companies are vying with one another through cut-throat competitions and conflicting interests. The book’s prescription of three C’s like Context, Complication and Clarity is must for a leader while navigating through his or her arduous journey. But then, there is no definite set of formulae to reach a solution. On the contrary, a leader shall emerge triumphant by being master of the situation using his or her uncommon common sense.

In a world caught in a flux of breathtaking changes, the call to leadership is imperative and the need of the hour is to inculcate and imbibe the salient traits of leadership enumerated in this book. The author’s prescriptions are to understand and change, to sustain and substantiate in order to be a successful leader.

The book in paperback, published by Bigfoot06 Publications (OPC) Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram, Haryana, contains 198 pages and costs Rs 299. It offers an aesthetically delightful get-up and is handy while offering convenient reading.
