A priest allegedly hacked to death his ‘sewadar’ outside a temple located outside Alamkheda village in Unnao.
Police reached the spot and recovered the decapitated body from outside the temple. Villagers claimed to have seen the priest running away with a blood-stained axe and a rod. A forensic team was also pressed into service. The police said that the body has been sent for autopsy while they are trying to ascertain the motive for murder. Three teams have also been formed to nab the absconding accused.
As per reports, Brahmadev Baba Temple is situated on the mound of Jamalnagar near Alamkheda village on Mohan-Auras road and a Shiva temple is located around 200 metres away from it.
The accused was identified as Bablu Paswan, who is a resident of Hajipur Tareh village of Hasanganj Kotwali, and is the priest of the Shiva temple.
Maiku Sai, who is a resident of Gahrawan village, is the priest of Brahmadev Temple. About five years back, Kuldeep, a youth from Kushinagar, started working as a ‘sewadar’ in the Shiva temple. He would also take care of Bablu Paswan.
On Monday night, Kuldeep was seen going to the temple with flour, oil and other items from a grocery shop. An hour later, the villagers saw Bablu Paswan, running away carrying a blood-soaked axe and a rod.
Later, the villagers spotted the head and torso of Kuldeep lying near the Shiva temple.
Police station in-charge Rekha Singh reached the spot and informed senior officers about the incident.
ASP (South) Premchandra and Bangarmau Circle Officer Arvind Kumar reached the scene to collect information and also summoned a forensic team to the spot. The police recorded the statement of other staff of the temple and villagers to ascertain the murder motive.
Reports said Maiku Sai could not give details of the deceased. Bablu’s father Baijnath had two marriages. Bablu is his son from the first wife, and Pintu & Bauwa from the second. After the death of his parents, Bablu left his home five years ago due to family disputes. He had been living in the temple in the guise of a priest ever since.
